Pickup trucks are especially popular among modern drivers. And it is not surprising at all, because these vehicles can be simultaneously used both for transporting people and for transportation of oversized cargo. However, it is worth noting that in some cases, objects in the back of the body are subject to various negative effects.
Once upon a time, drivers used homemade covers to protect the transported cargo. However, in today’s world, the situation has changed somewhat. Now available is the so-called tonneau cover of the pickup. It is also quite often referred to as a bunk. This is a special design, which is able to create a full closed luggage compartment from the open platform. We would also like to note that some models of Best Bed Covers for Ford F150, Ford Super Duty are equipped with glazed surfaces, due to which an ordinary pickup turns into a convenient passenger vehicle of universal type. So today I will tell you how to properly install it on your Ford!
Mounting of The Cover
-
-
-
Attach the aluminum corner provided to the inside of the front wall of your pickup truck body. Use 4.8×12 rivets to do this. The holes in the corner will show you where you need to drill the front wall. The bar should be installed so that its edges are flush with the sides of the machine. Before installing, apply a sealant to the surface of the bar against the side of the machine. Apply the same sealant to any remaining gaps.
-
Slide small strips of the reinforced sealant included with the Best Tonneau Covers. Install small portions of the reinforced gasket included with the cover on the edges of the downspout of the small portion of the cover.
-
Install the fasteners to the stationary (narrow) portion of the cover. Use the M8 bolts, M8 heavy-duty washers, washer, and M8 nuts that came with the M8 nuts that came with the cover. To do this, place the stationary part of the cover on a flat surface. Put the fixed part of the cover upside down, attach the brackets, and put the bolts through the corresponding holes (it is not necessary to put washers). Install the fasteners so that their “shelf” faces inward in the body. Then, holding the bolts by hand, put a reinforced washer and washer on each of them (from below) in turn and tighten the nut by hand. The nut does not need to be tightened – this will be done later. At this point you will have a stationary part of the cover with the fasteners pressed on, ready to install to the machine. Fasteners should be free to move relative to the stationary part in the grooves through which the bolts are passed – so you can accurately adjust the position of the cover relative to the body.
-
Place the fixed part of the cover on the body. Pull the (larger) part of the cover onto the hinges. Align the assembled assembly with the body, so that the cover will lie without displacement or misalignment. It is recommended that you keep the backboard closed – this will help you align the cover correctly. It is recommended that you keep the rear end of the body closed to help you align the cover properly. If you are installing the cover together with a helper, hinge both parts together beforehand and then stack it on top of the hinge both parts together ahead of time, then stow it on top of the boards – this will make it easier for you.
-
Without removing the cover, open the tailgate. Climb inside the body (it is more convenient to do it lying on the back) and press the cover fasteners with clamps to the board. Make sure that the top of the fasteners is level 5-7 mm above the top edge of the board. Once the clamps are tightened, tighten the nuts on the bolts that connect the Truck Bed Cover and mounts. As you tighten the nuts, the aluminum plate on the cover, the aluminum plate on the cover that the bolts are threaded through may become deformed. This is normal.
-
Tighten the jam nuts on the clamp bolts. This will insure that the clamps will not come loose over time.
-
Attach the gas stops to the mounts. The gas stops should be installed upward with the cylinders.
-
-
Install the ledgers on the mounts. Tighten the screws, but do not tighten them completely – this is done after the ledgers have been installed.
-
Pass the ledgers through the holes in the guide rail and clasp them in the adapters secured to the handle. If necessary, cut off any excess pieces. The length of the bolt should be such that when the lock is open, the distance between the end of the bolt and the body flange is 5-7 mm. Once you have selected the correct length of bolts, apply thread sealant to the bolts holding the bolts in the adapters and tighten the bolts to lock the bolts in place.
-
Place strips of reinforced sealant over the edges of the board. This will protect the paint on the body flanges from abrasion.
-
Close the body cover, leaving the tailgate open. Close the lock. Adjust the height of the bolt guides so that the cover presses evenly against the body. Tighten the adjustment bolts on the guides. After about 1000-1500 km, the seal will “shrink” and you may need to readjust the guides.
-
Install the “teeth” on the front edge of the removable part of the cover. The shelf “teeth” with the adjustment holes are on the “underside” of the bottom shelf of the cover. “The teeth are attached using M5 countersunk head screws.
-
Install the rear wall brackets for locking the rear wall when the Cover is closed. Install the brackets so that the top edge of each bracket is as close to the top edge of the tailgate as possible, and place the brackets as close to the sides of the vehicle as possible. The brackets are fastened with rivets 4.8×12.
That’s It!
Thus, use a bottle that allows you to pour the lubricant deep inside the lock. Be sure to perform this procedure after every wash and in the thaw. This will prevent the lock latch from freezing. It is also possible to use lithium grease for locks. So, I hope this article was helpful to you and that you get this installation done right!
